When Alton Ochsner and four colleagues opened New Orleans’ first multi-specialty group practice in 1942, they envisioned providing residents of the city with the highest quality medical care delivered with an unwavering attention to the needs of patients. They had a vision for a model of care that harnessed the expertise of a team of doctors to make sure patients received individualized, comprehensive care. Ochsner has now evolved into the largest private not-for-profit healthcare system in the region, encompassing 29 owned, managed and affiliated hospitals and over 60 neighborhood health centers.
Ochsner Health System is known regionally, nationally, and internationally as the prototype integrated academic health system, delivering education that prepares clinicians to provide care that is error free, integrated, coordinated, affordable and of the highest quality.
The Ochsner Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety Center was the vision of the Academic Division physician and administrative leadership as the necessary evolution of the Ochsner medical education portfolio. The center was developed in 2016 with the Ochsner mission, vision and values in mind. As the second phase of the Center for Academic Excellence development, the Ochsner Simulation Center was founded on the commitment to multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary education, research, and development with the primary focus on excellence in patient safety and quality care. The Ochsner mission to Serve, Heal, Lead, Educate, and Innovate—along with the Ochsner Values of Patients are Always our First Priority, Approach Every Encounter with Compassion, Always Act with Integrity, Excellence is Ongoing Journey, and Teamwork Makes us Stronger—guides our simulation scenario development and training courses ranging from basic skills training to advanced innovative simulation concepts. The center provides a large array of both high fidelity and low fidelity simulation equipment along with task trainers and cutting edge simulation technology including state-of-the-art interactive video recording.
